STORY TELLER | NATIVE CHARLOTTEAN | GRACE ADDICT | DEFENDER OF JOY | LOVER OF FREEDOM

MY LONG STORY SHORT:
There aren’t very many of us, but I am one of the few people who actually grew up in and around Charlotte. I’ve lived in a few different places over the years (SC, TN, FL), but as of January 2015, I’m back home!

In May of 2011 I married my wife, Emily (also a Charlotte native), and in September of 2013 we welcomed our son, Parker, into our family. And to round it all out, we have a Scooby-Doo-looking dog named Willis.

MY JOURNEY TO WATERSHED:
In 2014 my wife and I began to feel a strong pull back to the place we had both grown up and lived for most of our lives. The more we conversed and prayed about it, the clearer it became that we needed to seek out a church community to be a part of in Charlotte. As we asked for God to lead us, we collided into Watershed. In every single conversation that led up to us applying, interviewing and eventually accepting the call to Watershed, we felt in a very real sense that God was calling us to Watershed, and even more, into Himself. We’re excited to get to be a part of such an amazing church and can’t wait to see what our future here looks like.

MORE PLEASE:

FAVORITE AUTHORS:
C.S. Lewis has been a constant place of mind-altering, question-breeding support that has continued to grow me as a person from even my early childhood. It is hard to fathom that one person could so well articulate to 7-year-old me the same kinds of parables and stories that are continuing to shape me as a person now. It seems as though I keep bumping into and unearthing writings of his that challenge who I know myself to be.

FAVORITE QC SPOTS:
I love live music, so anywhere that has good solid bands is a place I want to be; being at home with my family is hard to beat; the smell of coffee and a fireplace are some of the best mood setters for me, so anywhere that has those two things.

THE MIXTAPE TO MY LIFE:
When I was growing up, one of the rules in our house was that we had to “try everything once." That rule usually applied to food, and more specifically vegetables that I was hesitant to taste, but it somehow carried over into my musical tastes as well. I find myself these days gravitating more towards music that resonates with me and challenges me more than a particular genre or artist. That being said, here would be my current mixtape in no particular order: Andrew Ripp, Sleeping At Last, Johnnyswim, Neal Carpenter, Young Oceans, Jenny & Tyler, Colony House, Dustin Kensrue and anything Thrice, Justin Jarvis, and Cageless Birds.

FYI:
I made one of those green smoothies the other day and loved it. I’ve never paid more than $2,500 for a car. I dropped out of college to move to Nashville, TN to play music with my band. I was out on St. Patty’s day at Kennedy’s on 7th a few years ago and had my car broken into and my acoustic guitar and powder blue bass stolen out of the backseat. If you see that powder blue bass, tell them I want it back. I’m a Carolina Tarheel through and through. I like naps in hammocks.
