Every other Friday we take a moment to introduce you to someone in our community who serves in one or more of Watershed's many volunteer areas: GreenHouse/Shed StudentsSunday TeamsCatapultBloc Leading, etc. The featured volunteer will then select someone he/she would like to see highlighted next.

This week, meet Becca!

BECCA WORTHINGTON

Volunteer Area(s):

Greenhouse Willows Volunteer

Why did you choose to volunteer in your area(s)?

Out of the most selfish motivation possible, I have always volunteered at the nursery in whatever church I've been a member of, because it's a scientific fact that kid cuddles are a cure for absolutely everything.

What has been one of your favorite moments as a volunteer?

I usually volunteer with the Willows because PreK kids say the most wonderfully inappropriate things and make the weirdest and most disgusting food combinations with the play kitchen that I then get to fake-eat. But I actually think my favorite Greenhouse moment was one week when I was having a particularly rough personal time and felt I couldn't sit through the service, I walked tearfully into the back hallway on a day that I wasn't scheduled to serve and asked Becky, "Do you happen to need any extra help today?" She looked at me and touched my hand gently and said, "Do you need me to need extra help today?" I nodded yes, and she squeezed my hand and said, "I think we need extra help with the babies." I went gratefully into the baby room, and one of them began to cry from its seat, so I unbuckled him and picked him up and began singing softly to him and walking the room. He hushed almost instantly and fell asleep on my neck and slept there, breathing peacefully, for the entire service. It was literally the most healing thing I've ever experienced in my life.

If you could use only one word to describe our Watershed community, what would it be?

Creative.

Describe your perfect day in Charlotte:

I have my literal dream job as the lead children's librarian at ImaginOn, so honestly, as dorky as this sounds, my perfect day would be spent at work. Preferably on a day when I have multiple programs, like baby storytime and family storytime. And a puppet show. And an elementary school program building fairy houses. And then I'd spend the afternoon on a mountaintop cliff, so close to the edge that my feet are dangling off, running lines for whatever play I'm lucky enough to be acting in at the moment. Aaaaand let's be honest, if it's a truly perfect day there will be burritos.

NEXT I'D LIKE WATERSHED TO FEATURE GINNIE HINKLE... because she's been in my Her: Grow bloc for years and has an incredibly talented creative mind (and awesome hair).
