Every other Friday, we take a moment to introduce you to someone in our community who serves in one or more of Watershed's many volunteer areas: GreenHouse/Shed Students, Sunday Teams, Catapult, Bloc Leading, etc. The featured volunteer will then select someone he/she would like to see highlighted next.
This week, meet Desmond!
Band, Production, Lead Team
Why did you choose to volunteer in your area(s)?
I’ve always been a musician and the emotional impact of being able to create and share music in a corporate setting has always been really powerful for me. In both the band and the production team, I get to have a part in setting the ambiance, the feel, and the energy for the gatherings at Watershed.
I’ve also been a Lead Team member since 2012. The Lead Team is a small group of volunteers that serve in an advisory role to Matt and Scott in making decisions regarding staffing, facilities, and the overall progress of the community. It functions a lot like a board of elders or deacons in other church settings. It’s a commitment that I take very seriously and I value the opportunity to represent the community in this way.
What has been one of your favorite moments as a volunteer?
There have been a lot but most recently has been the long hours that it took to move into our first home. It was amazing to see so many volunteers from so many different facets of Watershed coming together to pour our own spirit and energy into our new space. For me, it felt like it had a powerful impact on our sense of community.
If you could use only one word to describe our Watershed community, what would it be?
Describe your perfect day in Charlotte:
When I can’t get there in person, I need to start my day with some Enderly Coffee at home. There’d be some Mountain Biking in the morning, some exploring in the afternoon, and an evening with my wife, Kristy, at a brewery (or grabbing Fish and Chips at Workman’s Friend) to finish off the day.
All in all, my perfect day would have to include Seth, people I love, some outside time, yoga, decent food, and maybe a dog.
NEXT I'D LIKE WATERSHED TO FEATURE KYLE YANCEY because…
Kyle Yancey because I’ve seen some of that dude’s dance moves and it would be a shame not to share it with everyone! Also, he’s a great guy.
