CATAPULT IS WATERSHED’S LOCAL JUSTICE EXPRESSION COMMITTED TO empowering THE YOUTH IN OUR CITY WHO HAVE THE LEAST ACCESS TO OPPORTUNITY.
The mission of UrbanPromise Charlotte (UP) is to provide Charlotte's children and youth with the spiritual, academic, and social development necessary to become Christian leaders determined to restore their communities. UP reaches younger children through afterschool and summer programs and trains high schoolers (called StreetLeaders) who are employed as the leaders in these programs. UP's ultimate goal is to restore community as a new generation of young leaders affects social, economic, and spiritual revitalization in their neighborhoods and in the city of Charlotte.
HIGH SCHOOL MENTORSHIP: Through UP's Mentorship Program, a mentor will be paired with a high school StreetLeader who has similar career and life ambitions. UP provides mentors the structure and guidance necessary to establish and carry out a caring relationship with a teenager through monthly mentor trainings and ongoing communication with program staff. This mentoring relationship offers youth the stability and unconditional love that they may lack at home or in their community.
"OPTIONS" TEACHER: During UP's AfterSchool Program, students have the opportunity to choose an “Options Class” to attend, where they will develop a life skill they might not otherwise have the chance to learn. Possible skills might include cooking, fitness, gardening, dance, art, music, or LEGO robotics. An “Options Teacher” volunteer designs a 10-week course around a skill of their choice. Options courses are on Wednesdays from 5:15-6:15PM during a fall semester or a spring semester.
