Christianity has had seasons where it’s been beautifully shaped by the life and teachings of Jesus—and seasons where it has tried very hard to shape Jesus into something safer, smaller, or more convenient. But no matter how much we domesticate, hijack, or contort him, the Jesus rooted in radical Love, Compassion, and Justice refuses to be confined. Eventually, Jesus is going to do what Jesus does: love who he loves, confront what harms, lift up who’s left out, and unsettle whatever needs unsettling. In other words, Jesus’ gonna Jesus.
